PURPOSE: A vehicle navigation device having an optimum route tracking function using wireless internet and a control method thereof are provided to collect traffic information on a road in real time through the existing wireless internet network and display the traffic information on a map of the navigation device. CONSTITUTION: A vehicle navigation device having an optimum route tracking function using wireless internet comprises a navigation(104) and a management server(106). The navigation transmits the driving speed and position of a vehicle(100A) in real time through a wireless internet terminal connected to a body and displays traffic information which is received through an access point(103) of a wireless Internet network(102). The management server collects the position and driving speed information of the vehicle transmitted from the navigation in real time, stores collectively computed traffic information in a database(105), and provides traffic information updated according to the travel route of the vehicle.
