<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an in/out determining method and system reducing the processing load of readers receiving in/out determination information from tags, and that of an in/out management server. <P>SOLUTION: When the tag is located in an area of the first (or fourth) reader, only adjacent identification information and position information transmitted from the reader are recorded in a memory, and its contents are returned to the reader. When the tag enters an area of the second (or third) reader, the adjacent identification information recorded in the memory is referred to, and the adjacent identification information and position information of the reader are overwritten in the memory and returned to the reader. Further, when the tag enters an area of the third (or second) reader, the adjacent identification information recorded in the memory is referred to, and the adjacent identification information and position information of the reader are overwritten in the memory and returned to the reader.
