Fibres and films of crystalline olefine polymers modified with a polymer or condensate of a basic nitrogenous compound are treated with an alkylene mono-oxide to increase their dyeability. The treatment may be carried out in an aqueous solution containing 1-10% alkylene mono-oxide at temperatures between 50 DEG and 120 DEG C. for periods of a few seconds to 3 hours. The preferred olefine polymer is isotactic polypropylene of intrinsic viscosity greater than 1 and it may be modified with polyvinyl pyridine or a condensate derived from epichlorhydrin or an alkyl dihalide and a diamine which condensate may be alkylated. The preferred alkylene mono-oxides are ethylene and propylene oxides and the treatment therewith may be effected before or after stretching by a continuous or batch process. A treatment with sulphuric acid may be introduced before dyeing. Examples are given. Specification 904,998 is referred to.ALSO:Fibres or films of crystalline olefine polymers modified with a polymer or condensate of a basic nitrogenous compound are treated with an alkylene mono-oxide, e.g. ethylene or propylene oxide, to improve their dyeability (see Group IV(a)). A further treatment with sulphuric acid may be carried out before dyeing with acid, metallized, mordant, vat or plastosoluble dyestuffs. Dyeing may be accomplished using 5% of dye, on the weight of the material to be dyed, in aqueous medium at the boil for 1 hour with a goods to liquor ratio of 1:40. Examples are given. Specification 904,998 is referred to.
