The invention relates to a method and a device for printing on a postal item. Said postal item is aligned such that it is arranged upright on a reference plane. Subsequently, the postal item is transported in a transport step by the conveying device along a printing section. An upper area is arranged above the conveying device and a lower area is arranged between the conveying device and the reference plane. A printer can print a marking onto a lower area and another printer (1) can print another marking onto the upper area. Both of the printers print both markings when the postal item of mail is transported in a transport step via the printing section.
