A brake system controller (106, fig 1) may perform a method comprising receiving a pedal deflection signal (102, fig 1) comprising a pedal deflection level, determining a present level of deceleration (104, fig 1), and mapping the pedal deflection level to a desired level of deceleration, wherein the desired level of deceleration is greater than the present level of deceleration. If the vehicle has a negative deceleration (eg acceleration) the present level of deceleration may be set to zero. Present level of deceleration may be due to drag, rolling resistance and/or reverse thrust. The invention facilitates braking of the vehicle even if the present deceleration is greater than the pedal deflection. |
