PURPOSE: A fingerprint identification apparatus capable of distinguishing a forged fingerprint and a decision method thereof are provided to prevent error generation in the acquisition process of a fingerprint image by using separate internal light source for distinguishing the forged fingerprint and an organism fingerprint. CONSTITUTION: Light source for organism determination(270) irradiates light with the predetermined incidence angle about a fingerprint contact surface. An optical lens(233) makes a fingerprint image irradiated from a prism(210) by the light. An image sensor(235) obtains the fingerprint image. A forged fingerprint determining unit(251) calculates an area or an average gray level of the fingerprint image. If the area or the average gray level of the fingerprint image is smaller than a standard value, the forged fingerprint determining unit decides an object as the forged fingerprint. |
