PURPOSE: Polyester fiber for an airbag and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to improve shape stability, mechanical property, and air interception effects with high initial modulus, intensity, and elongation of the polyester fiber. CONSTITUTION: Polyester fiber includes initial modulus of 105-130 g/d. The elongation of the monofilament measured at a room temperature is 0.4% or less. The polyesterfiber includes polyethylene terephthalate of 70 mole% or more and the carboxyl terminal group content of 50 meq / kg or less. The tensile strength of the polyester fiber is 7.5 g/d-11.0 g/d. The elongation at break of the polyester fiber is 13-35%.
