The apparatus (1) has a cooking compartment (4) located on front of the apparatus, delimited by a grid (13) on the level of a rear part of the apparatus and surmounted by a cap (5). The compartment has a receiving frame (9) to receive cooking grids (10), mounted horizontally in pivoting manner on 180 degrees and placed in two vertical positions to allow exposing of each face of the grids to a coal bed. The receiving frame is movable with respect to the coal bed between a proximal position and a distal position that is distal from the coal bed.
