PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving handrail sterilizing device of a passenger conveyor, controlling the behavior of a sterilizing part such that a moving handrail is sterilized at a suitable timing and for an appropriate time period. SOLUTION: The moving handrail sterilizing device 40 of an escalator is installed in a truss and near a moving handrail inlet through which the endless moving handrail 30, moving while circulating, enters into a truss. This device includes: a roller 42 sterilizing the surface of the moving handrail 30; and a control section 80 starting a sterilizing behavior by this roller 42 at a prescribed timing, and stopping after continuing for a prescribed time period.
