PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device capable of simply and precisely detecting display defective area on a display screen and correcting an image signal of a display object so as to suppress the effect to a display due to the area. SOLUTION: An optical amount distribution sensor 11 for measuring an optical amount distribution on display is disposed on an outer edge part of a front plate of the display screen 100. On a display defective area detection part 2, a display defective area on the display screen 100 is detected on the basis of a deviation of the gravity position of the optical amount distribution obtained when a uniform image is displayed on the whole screen of the display screen 100. Further, on a correction part 41, such a correction as to suppress the effect to the display due to the display defective area is performed for an image signal being display object to the display screen 100.
