PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve accurate object detection using data related to the reflected light of a scanning light corresponding to an entire monitored area, without using the scanning position of the scanning light on the monitored area as a reference. SOLUTION: The method for detecting an object includes: a step of receiving measured data D generated by a signal processing unit 3 with a control device 6 by packet communication; a step of detecting an object existing on the scanning lines from the measured data D corresponding to the received scanning lines of predetermined number, each time the measured data D are stored in a corresponding address location of a measured data memory area 64a; and a step of detecting the object existing in a scanned range E using the latest 1 frame equivalent object detection data stored in an analysis result memory area 64b. The data amount of the measured data D received by the control device 6 from the signal processing unit 3 by one packet communication can be the data amount coinciding to the measured data D equivalent to one scanning line.
