1, 042, 524. Evaporators; crystallizing sugar. SOC FIVES LILLE-CAIL. July 9, 1963 [July 10, 1962], No. 27215/63. Heading B1B. A cylindrical evaporator, such as is used for concentrating sugar syrup to obtain crystals, has a longitudinal opening 2 in the lower part, below which is a chamber 3 provided with a valve 7; and one or more rotatable plates 8 are mounted on shaft 9 in the longitudinal opening, the arrangement being such that there are small clearances 10 between the bearing surfaces 12 of the plates and the seats 11 of the opening. The evaporator is heated by calandria 14. When the syrup is being boiled, the plates are horizontal and currents of syrup circulate between chamber 3 and the evaporator through clearances 10. Fresh feed is introduced into chamber 3 through pipes (not shown). When boiling has been completed, the plates are turned on shaft 9 through a quarter of a revolution, the vacuum seal of the evaporator is broken, and the valve 7 is opened, whereupon the massecuite is rapidly discharged from the apparatus. |
