PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURE OF CHROMAN DERIVATIVE, ESPECIALLY alpha-TOCOPHEROL AND ALKANOATE THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for manufacture of a chroman derivative such as an alkanoate of anα-tocopherol (TCP), especially anα-tocopheryl acetate (TCPA). SOLUTION: There is provided the method wherein theα-tocopherol (TCP) and a derivative thereof are reacted with an acylating agent in the presence of a Lewis acid or a mixture of the Lewis acid with a Bronsted acid as a catalyst under an absolute pressure of at least 1.1 bar. Suitable acid mixtures are iron/iron (II) chloride/hydrogen chloride and zinc (II) chloride/hydrogen chloride. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
