A window assembly for passing microwave energy, e.g. in the output waveguide of a klystron, includes a planar circular window 81 which is gas-tight and wave permeable supported between first and second waveguides 87, 88 of equal transverse dimensions, a rectangular third waveguide 21 having its larger transverse dimension greater than the diameter of the window and its smaller dimension smaller, the third waveguide being joined to the first, and a fourth waveguide 89 joined to the second and having dimensions equal to the third waveguide, the first and second waveguide having a transverse dimension on any diameter substantially equal to the corresponding transverse dimension of the third and fourth waveguide or the window whichever is the greater, on that diameter. The first and second waveguides form a resonant structure which supports desired and undesired modes and includes a mode suppressor positioned within the structure to suppress the undesired modes, e.g. an electrical conductor 95 positioned othogonal to the electric field lines of the desired modes, or means for coupling out only energy of the undesired modes.
