PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reference voltage generation circuit for generating a reference voltage which is lower than a band gap voltage, and which has band gap temperature characteristics without generating any band gap voltage inside. SOLUTION: The reference voltage generation circuit is provided with: a first proportional current generation circuit for carrying out the current conversion of the forward voltage of a joint type element into first currents proportional to the voltage; a second proportional current generation circuit for carrying out the current conversion of a difference between the forward voltages of a pair of joint type elements whose current density has been changed into second currents proportional to the difference; a current/voltage conversion circuit for carrying out the voltage conversion of a difference between the first currents and the second currents into a first voltage proportional to the difference; and a buffer circuit for outputting a voltage obtained by subtracting the first voltage from the forward voltage of the joint type element as a reference voltage.
