PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a boom deflection inhibiting device constructed to smoothly and accurately perform its elongating/retracting work, and to provide a method for operating the same. SOLUTION: The boom deflection inhibiting device 10 includes an image display means 73 for displaying the condition of elongating/retracting work being currently executed for the boom deflection inhibiting device 10 and the contents of the work and operation to be done next at the same time while automatically changing the display contents along with the progress of the work. An operator can check information displayed on the image display means 73 and then perform operation after accurately seizing the contents of the operation to be done next. As a result, he can perform accurate and smooth operation in the elongating/retracting work for the boom deflection inhibiting device 10. This improves working safety and reliability.
