PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a serial type recorder which can be compactly packed in a state where a carriage is fixed. SOLUTION: The serial type recorder has a recorder body 1 including a carriage 3, a center cover 5, and a paper ejection space 15. A container is housed in the paper ejection space 15. The center cover 5 is held at a first position by receiving pressing force from the container when the container is housed in the paper ejection space 15, and moves from the first position to a second position when the container is taken out from the paper ejection space 15. The center cover 5 includes a projection 10 for performing positional regulation in a scanning direction of the carriage 3 when the center cover 5 exists at the first position, and canceling the positional regulation of the carriage 3 when the center cover 5 exists at the second position.
