PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform soft handoff across different networks.

SOLUTION: A first communication link 106 through a first network 104a is used for communicating between a first user agent 102a and a second user agent 102b. The user agents negotiate to use a second communication link 108 for the same call. The second communication link 108 is established through a second network 104b between the first user agent 102a and the second user agent 102b while maintaining the first communication link 106. Related data are sent through the first communication link 106 and the second communication link 108 such that the related data are for the same call. The first communication link 106 is dropped and communication is continued using the second communication link 108.
