PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for further shortening an FCOT (first copy output time). SOLUTION: Upon accepting an instruction of forming an image of an original document from a user, a control section 100 determines whether a cover covering a glass plate of a reading unit 10 is closed or not on the basis of an output from an opening/closing detection sensor 1211. When the cover is in a closed state, the control section makes an image recording section 110 start a recording operation without waiting for the completion of a reading operation by the image reading section 109. On the contrary, when the cover is in an opened state, the control section waits for the completion of the reading operation by the image reading section 109, and then makes the image recording section 110 start the recording operation.
