PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intruding object detector which is capable of preventing a rapid illuminance change in a monitoring space from being erroneously detected as an intruding object even when the rapid illuminance change occues. SOLUTION: An intruding object detector 1 includes: an imaging part 10 which images the monitoring space to generate a monitor image; a storage part 23 wherein a background model representing appearance probability distributions of pixel values of respective pixels in the two or more monitor images and pixel values representing the background model as representative pixel values are stored; a background composition part 242 which generates a composite background image by replacing a pixel value of a target pixel in the monitor image with a representative pixel value of the background model corresponding to the target pixel; a correlation value calculation part 243 which sets a local area including the target pixel in the monitor image and a plurality of pixels located in the vicinity of the target pixel and calculates a correlation value between the monitor image in the local area and the composite background image in the local area, as a correlation value of the target pixel; and an intruding object detection part 244 which determines whether an intruding object exists in the monitor space on the basis of pixels of which the correlation values are equal to or smaller than a prescribed threshold.
