A method and a system for updating system messages are disclosed in the present invention. The system includes a serving base station and a user equipment (UE). The method includes the following steps: the UE receives the update information of the system messages transmitted from the serving base station, and updates the system messages of the non-main serving component carriers (CC) according to the update information of the system messages. On the premise of the less influence on the power consumption of the UE, the method and the system of the present invention can insure that the UE updates the system messages of the component carriers in time when the UE needs.
