PURPOSE: A data recording apparatus and method are provided to offer the control menu of a predetermined function without deteriorating the operability of a user. CONSTITUTION: If the mounting of a memory card is detected, a card detector acquires the type information of the memory card(S401,S402). A system controller judges whether the mounted memory card is a communication memory card on the basis of the type information(S403). In case the memory card is the communication memory card, the system controller makes effective a wireless function setup menu(S404). In case the memory card is not the communication memory card, the system controller makes ineffective the wireless function setup menu(S405).
