PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an identification medium in which images different in color can be observed depending on a viewing angle by rotating a polarization filter for observation with respect to the identification medium. SOLUTION: An optical anisotropic layer 105 showing a birefringent effect is provided on an alignment layer having alignment regions with different alignment directions in a lattice pattern. The optical anisotropic layer 105 includes regions having two types of optical anisotropy formed in a dot pattern, and first and second images are formed by being drawn with the dot pattern. The first image is constituted of dots having a first alignment direction and a first birefringent effect while the second image is constituted of dots having a second alignment direction and a second birefringent effect. The structure gives such a visual effect that in an observation through a polarization filter, images different in colors can be switched and observed by differences in the alignment direction and in the birefringent effect.
