PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein a heavy metal hydroxide is not easily obtainable via a conventional hydroxylation treatment and a heavy metal scavenger or a heavy metal adsorption resin cannot adsorb a heavy metal from wastewater containing the heavy metal and a dispersant discharged from various processes. SOLUTION: A method according to the invention includes a process for adjusting the pH value of the metal-containing wastewater to 4 or less, a process for holding the metal-containing wastewater for a prescribed time (5 to 60 minutes), and a process for adjusting the pH value of the metal-containing wastewater to the range of 5 to 12.
