PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To supply a DC power having quality equal to that of the conventional one at low cost, without the use of a bidirectional switching circuit. SOLUTION: A serial connection circuit of switches Q<SB>1</SB>, Q<SB>2</SB>is connected in parallel with the serial connection circuit of capacitors C<SB>1</SB>, C<SB>2</SB>, and both ends thereof are connected to a load resistor RL. A serial connection point of the switches Q<SB>1</SB>, Q<SB>2</SB>is connected to one terminal of a single phase AC power supply AC via a reactor L<SB>1</SB>, and the connection point of the capacitors C<SB>1</SB>, C<SB>2</SB>is connected to the other terminal of the power supply AC; the single phase rectifying circuit is constituted, by connecting the serial connection circuit of the switches Q<SB>3</SB>, Q<SB>4</SB>, in parallel with the switches Q<SB>1</SB>, Q<SB>2</SB>of the serial connection circuit, and then connecting the connection point of the switches Q<SB>3</SB>, Q<SB>4</SB>to one terminal of the power supply AC via serial circuits of the reactor L<SB>1</SB>and the capacitor C<SB>3</SB>. The amplitude and the phase of the current of the reactors L<SB>1</SB>, L<SB>2</SB>are adjusted so that a sum of the instantaneous value of power supplied from the power supply AC to the connection point of the switches Q<SB>1</SB>, Q<SB>2</SB>and the instantaneous value of power supplied to the connection point of the switches Q<SB>3</SB>, Q<SB>4</SB>becomes constant, at all times.
