PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motion controlling hinge for an orthopedic brace which is very useful for a wearer. SOLUTION: The hinge (20) includes an actuator (58) fixed to a pair of arms (22 and 24), and at least one spring member (80). As one arm with the actuator pivots in a first direction, at a predetermined flexion angle the actuator applies force to the spring member, causing the spring member to flex. The spring member exerts force on the actuator to push it away from the spring member, while applying force for exerting the arm in a second direction opposite to the first direction to the actuator. In a preferred embodiment, it includes: the spring member comprising a plurality of flat leaf springs; a fulcrum (104) movable in position so as to enable the adjustment of force exerted by the spring member on the actuator; and availability of a variety of adapters (66) different in size to be fixed to the actuator, as the size of the adapter (66) can determine the flexion angle at which the spring member first exerts force on the actuator.
