The damper has a primary mass (10) centrically attached to a crank shaft of an internal combustion engine. The primary mass comprises a sheet metal molded part (14), which forms a hollow space for accommodating a torsional damper (20), and another sheet metal molded part. A mass element (22) i.e. mass ring, partially overlaps the sheet metal molded parts of the primary mass. The mass element is connected with the two sheet metal molded parts by a welded connection (30) i.e. laser weld seam, and is connected with the latter molded part by a rivet connection (32). An independent claim is also included for a method for mounting a vibration damper.
