PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing Lithospermum erythrorhizon extract for treating obesity is provided to prevent hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, or liver cancer. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for improving obesity contains 0.001-99.9 weight% of Lithospermum erythrorhizon extract as an active ingredient. Lithospermum erythrorhizon extract is isolated from leaves, stems, flowers, roots, or mixture thereof using ethanol, water, or mixture solvent thereof. The pharmaceutical composition is manufactured in the form of oral formulation(tablet, suspension, granule, emulsion, capsule, syrup), parenteral formulation(aqueous or oil suspension for sterilized injection), and topical formulation(solution, cream, ointment, gel, lotion, patch).
