PURPOSE: A composition containing Dioscorea villosa or Paeonia japonica extract for preventing and relieving inflammation is provided suppress prostaglandin E2 and interleuckin 1alpha generation. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing and relieving inflammation contains 0.005-30 weight parts of extract of Dioscorea villosa, Paeonia japonica, or Paeonia moutan. The extract is isolated using water, organic solvent, or mixture thereof. The organic solvent is methanol, ethanol, propanol, isopropanol, butanol, acetone, glycerol, propylene glycol, 1,3-butylene glycol, methyl acetate, chloroform, diethyl ether, or hexane. The cosmetic composition is manufactured in the form of spray, liquid, stick, gel, cream, or cleanser.
