952,581. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. CHO-ONPA KOGYO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Dec. 21, 1962 [May 12, 1962], No. 48435/62. Heading B5K. Plastic material is bonded using ultrasonic vibrations by feeding the pieces 5 to be bonded between an ultrasonic vibrating tool 4 and an anvil 6, the gap between the anvil and the mean position of the tool 4 being larger than the single amplitude of vibration of the tool 4 but less than the combined thicknesses of the pieces 5 plus the single amplitude of vibration of the tool 4. Electrical energy supplied by a generator G is converted to mechanical vibrations by a transducer 1 and transferred to the bonding tool 4 by an elastic vibrating element 2, 3. The anvil 6 may comprise a rotating roller or a fixed member and the pieces to be bonded are passed thereover in the direction of the arrow F. The element 2, 3 is supported at a nodal point thereof by a housing 7 having a bar 8 extending therefrom. The bar 8 is adjustable relative to a fixed base 9 by a screw 11, a compression spring 10 urging the entire system upwardly. The tool 4 may be shaped as shown in Fig. 2 or the ramp may be a straight incline, a circular arc, an exponential curve or a combination thereof.
|
