The device (1) has a treatment station formed by an interior (3) of a housing (2) for parking or stopping multiple shopping trolleys (4). A dispensing unit (6) i.e. UV lamp, dispenses disinfecting medium to a handle and to areas of the parked shopping trolleys adjacent to the handle. The disinfecting medium contains liquid, chemical or biodegradable or naturally biodegradable active agent i.e. hydrogen peroxide. The station is formed as a shopping trolley-park or collecting station. The lamp emits UV light or UV light energy. A nozzle assembly dispenses the treatment or disinfection medium. An independent claim is also included for a method for disinfecting and/or sterilizing a shopping trolley.
