Apparatus for foaming slag comprises a pit having a solid bottom surface which is moisture impervious and,has embedded in a part thereof a plurality of liquid outlets 16 which extend to the bottom surface, an inclined solid ramp 12 joined to the bottom surface adjacent the liquid outlets and having similar liquid outlets 23, means for supplying controlled amounts of foaming liquid under pressure to the outlets, an inclined end surface 13 joined to the opposite end of the bottom surface and means for introducing molten slag onto the inclined ramp 12, in such volume and from a height sufficient to move the slag in unidirectional flow across the bottom surface with at least some of the slag overflowing the opposite inclined end 13. The bottom surface is reinforced in that part containing the liquid outlets, and also in that portion are porous drain channels 20 connected to passages 21. Liquid to the outlets 16 and 23 comes from a valve-19-controlled main 18 through pipes which may also be individually controlled by valves.</p> |
