A power management module 102 monitors the power usage of a plurality of devices 108 in a computer system 100. Where the power usage exceeds a threshold, the module sends a control signal to the device or devices which exceed that threshold, the control signal including information to trigger a delay in the supply of power to those devices. This delay may involve the time interleaving of power usage among the devices, a delay in a modulated voltage signal being supplied to the devices, or an adjustment to transitions between voltage settings. The arrangement prevents excessive peaks in power usage, promoting a smoother power profile and reducing cooling requirements. Each device may be associated with an integrated voltage regulator to transmit the relevant power information to the power management module and to receive and implement the control signals. |
