An electric space heating arrangement comprises a resilient insulating element-carrying layer 10 and a rigid layer 11 which presses the heating element 14 into the surface of the layer 10 to form grooves therein. In the arrangement shown, the layer 10 is of polystyrene and is laid on a board floor 13. The element 14 is a wire with P.V.C. insulation and is covered by a sheet 15 of aluminium or like metal foil serving as a heat disperser and earthing element. The layer 11 may be composed of a number of sheets of insulating board, and is covered with linoleum tiles 16. The element 14 may be a bare wire, in which case the metal foil 15 is either omitted or is backed with a P.V.C. insulating layer. The element 14 may be secured to a support member of stiff paper before being laid on the layer 10 in which it becomes partially embedded. The arrangement may be laid on concrete floors or may be used for ceiling or wall heating. Alternatively the arrangement may be pre-fabricated in the form of a panel (Fig. 2, not shown), which may be used as a foot-rest. The element 14 may be connected to a thermostatic control. |
