The method involves arranging an imaging device (10) with respect to a reference surface (72) with an indicator region (75) with indicator-based optical characteristics. The reference surface is illuminated by illumination light of a light source (22), and an image of the reference surface is detected by the imaging device. Existence of illumination spectrum and transmission spectrum in a monitoring light path during detection of image is determined based on the detected image. The detected image is compared with a reference image. An independent claim is also included for a reference body for testing an optical analysis system.
