The method involves generating a context-specific control menu (20) provided to an application program (15), and displaying the context-specific control menu on a touch-sensitive display area (11) if contact by an operating element (30) e.g. index finger, is detected on the touch-sensitive display area. The menu is provided with two hierarchic stages, where a switching surface (21) of one of the hierarchic stages is displayed during displaying of the control menu. Another switching surface (22) is displayed concentrically around the former surface and assigned to the other hierarchic stage. An independent claim is also included for a control device.
