A hinge comprises first and second pivotally connected members 14, 15 adapted to be attached e.g. to a boot lid 16 and a vehicle body 17 respectively, and a link 10 formed at one end with a longitudinally extending slot 12 in which is engaged a pin 18 connected to the second member 15, a compression spring 19 being mounted on the link between the pin 18 and an abutment 11 on the other end of the link and the first member 14 being arranged to displace the link during movement of the hinge to provide a counterbalancing force to the weight of the lid. The link may be pivoted directly to the member 14 or may, as shown, have a projection 13 which bears against a grooved portion 14b of the member and is guided in slots or recesses 15a in the second member 15. A cap 20 with a nylon insert is provided between the spring 19 and the pin 18. According to the Provisional Specifications the link may be made from or coated with synthetic resin. |
