The method involves processing a metal substrate made of high-grade steel during a transforming process for producing plates such that structures are brought out and/or introduced on one side and in sections. The transformed metal substrate is cleaned in a cleaning process. The plates are separated out from the metal substrate during a laser cutting process. The plates are joined together to form a bipolar plate during a laser welding process. The bipolar plate (1) is tested for tightness between the plates during a sealing test. Seals are introduced on an exterior of the bipolar plate.
