The circuit has a generating unit (2) generating a generator alternating current voltage. A direct current (DC) voltage converter (12) is arranged in the DC voltage circuit between a rectifying unit (3) and an inverter (4). The voltage converter converts a generator-DC voltage potential (U-GG) of a generator-DC voltage circuit (26) into a power line-DC voltage potential (U-NG) of a power line-DC voltage circuit (27) for the supply of the inverter. The generator-DC voltage potential is provided by the inverter. An independent claim is also included for a method for retrofitting a current generator.
