[Also in Group XXVI] For joining glass-lined metal pipes, the pipes are supported vertically and heated to the sof tening point of the glass so that it sags out of the end of the pipe tc form an enlargec annular projection which, after cooling, is ground flush with the metal; a gasket, pre ferably formed by a flat sheet 42 of asbestos or other compressible material and a member 44 of a corrosionresistant material such as polyfluoroethylene, is interposed between the ends of the pipes to be joined which are drawn together by bolts 40 acting on collars 36 screwed on to the ends of the metal outer pipes 10. |
