PURPOSE: A method and device for providing a presence service in an SIP base group communications system are provided to reduce the number of message transceiving processes and the number of transmitted messages, thereby enhancing service performance. CONSTITUTION: A presence server driving unit(301) verifies setup information by reading setup information necessary for operating a presence service device. A user registration unit(302) configures user information using terminal information registered in the presence service device. A presence information extracting unit(303) extracts presence information from an SIP message. A presence information changing unit(304) changes the presence information according to the presence information.
