PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plane discharge lamp device performing uniform light emission. SOLUTION: A fiber aggregate exists in a whole discharge space. Invisible light and/or visible light generated in the discharge space change their traveling direction at random by changing the traveling direction as compared with a time of light generation caused by reflection and refraction by the fiber aggregate. Even when a local discharge in the plane discharge lamp device occurs, or when there is a portion which does not emit light in the plane discharge lamp device because the existence of members uninvolved in the light generation exists, therefore, the plane discharge lamp device still performs the uniform light emission due to its nature in which the light emission tends to diffuse at random.
