PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change the display form of metadata displayed together with a thumbnail image, so as not to damage the visibility of the thumbnail image, while making it possible to change the size of the thumbnail image of an image obtained from a microscope. SOLUTION: When an operation for changing the size of the thumbnail image 41 is input on a thumbnail list view picture 20, the CPU 101 of a PC 100 changes the size of the thumbnail image 41 and changes the sizes of annotation position information 52 and annotation character information 53 superimposed and displayed on the thumbnail image 41, according to the size of the thumbnail image 41. At this point, the CPU 101 displays the annotation position information 52 as only a point and eliminates the annotation character information, when the size after the change is less than a predetermined threshold.
