PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a water-base paint composition combined with a silicate compound, which generates a few aggregates and is excellent in storage stability. SOLUTION: The method for producing a water-base paint composition includes mixing a water-dispersible resin (a), colloidal silica (b), and a nonionic surfactant (c) and thereafter further combining the silicate compound (d), and more specifically, the method for producing a water-base paint composition includes mixing 5-50 pts.mass of the colloidal silica (b) (solid content) and 0.5-10.0 pts.mass of the nonionic surfactant (c) (solid content) based on 100 pts.mass of the water-dispersible resin (a) and thereafter further combining 5-80 pts.mass of the silicate compound (d) (solid content).
