BAFF RECEPTOR (BCMA) AS IMMUNOREGULATORY FACTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receptor for BAFF; and to provide a method for inhibiting development of a β cell-activating factor in the tumor necrosis factor family, a B cell and immunoglobulin.

SOLUTION: The BAFF-R is provided as a new receptor in the TNF family. Chimeric molecules and antibodies to BAFF-R and methods of use thereof are also provided. The invention relates further to a method for inhibiting B cell growth in animal bodies, which comprises a process of administering a therapeutically effective amount of a composition selected from the group consisting of a BAFF-R polypeptide or fragment thereof, a chimeric molecule comprising a BAFF-R polypeptide or fragment thereof fused to a heterologous amino acid sequence, and an anti-BAFF-R antibody homolog.
