[Also in Divisions F1 and F2] An aerosol valve comprises a valve housing 22 having a valve seat 54 at its upper end which is normally engaged by an enlargement 40 of a valve member 28 under the action of a spring 38. Above the enlargement 40, the valve member is provided with a number of grooves 60 to allow flow through the valve seat when the member 28 is depressed by a button 36. The button 36 has a spray outlet 64 and a portion 50 which engages and squeezes a resilient portion 70, formed with the seat 54 to provide a passage with the grooves 60 when the valve is open. The valve member 28 is also provided at its lower end with a slot 40 forming tines 44, the slot 42 co-operating with a valve seat 30 to shut off the flow to a chamber 26 when the valve is depressed thereby providing a measured quantity discharge. On depressing the button 36, the lower valve 42, 30 first closes, the portion 50 then engages the resilient portion 70 and finally, as the portion 70 yields, the slots 60 pass through the seat 54 to allow discharge. In a modification the portion 50 carries a resilient block which engages a flange 48 of the cover, in this case the valve seat 54 is a disc. In a further modification a resilient disc is located above the valve seat 54 and the portion 50 is extended into the flanged part 48 and seals with this disc when the button is depressed.</p> |
