ROD-LIKE STRUCTURE LIGHT EMITTING ELEMENT, BACKLIGHT, LIGHTING SYSTEM, AND DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a minute rod-like light emitting element which can extract light efficiently.

SOLUTION: The rod-like structure light emitting element includes a rod-like body 1. The body 1 includes a first semiconductor part 2 formed of n-type GaN, and a second semiconductor part 3 being in contact with the first semiconductor part 2 and formed of p-type GaN. A boundary surface of the first semiconductor part 2 and the second semiconductor part 3 is a light emitting surface 4. Projections and recesses are formed on axial one end surface 5 of the body 1.
