A culture medium for growing stem cells is provided wherein the culture medium comprises at least one mogroside and/or at least one analogue thereof. Also provided are methods for growing stem cells comprising the step of culturing the stem cells in the presence of at least one mogroside and/or at least one analogue thereof. The presence of the at least one mogroside and/or the at least one analogue thereof has been shown to obviate the requirement for feeder cells and/or pre-conditioned medium, whilst allowing the stem cells to be proliferated for extended periods of time without losing their ability to differentiate. Cells grown using the methods of the present invention have increased potential for use in therapy and regenerative medicine as the risk of contamination of stem cells is reduced. |
