PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a large amount of cellulolytic enzymes by culturing genus Clostridium microorganisms having cellulose assimilating ability to improve the density of the microbial body.

SOLUTION: There is disclosed a method for producing cellulase by culturing genus Clostridium microorganisms having the cellulose assimilating ability, especially Clostridium thermocellum, wherein the cellulases are accumulated in a medium by repeating the addition and consumption of a carbon source every certain fixed period of time after the assimilatable carbon source is consumed by the genus Clostridium microorganisms.
