PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-domain liquid crystal display device having superior viewing angle characteristics and high contrast without requiring an increase in a complicated processing such as a fine processing of a common electrode. SOLUTION: The multi-domain liquid crystal display device includes a control electrode 73 connected to a source terminal of a switching element, and a pixel electrode 71 having an opening formed therein and having a coupling capacitance with the control electrode 73, wherein a partial voltage of a signal voltage is applied through the coupling capacitance to the pixel electrode 71. The pixel electrode is formed of a plurality of square unit electrodes, and each electrode is equipped with a control electrode 73 disposed along one side of the square, while three sides of the square form an opening or a pixel electrode end 76.
